I Spit on your Grave. The controversial queen of revenge films herself! I won`t beat around the bush, this is one damn confronting film, a masterpiece of cinematic horror depicting the tragic horrors of sexual violence in unflinching and uncompromising detail, as well as the power and courage this woman shows as she exacts her brutal vengeance upon the monsters that committed such an atrocity on her. Yes this film is definitely not for everyone, it is the crowned jewel atop the Rape/Revenge sub genre. As hard as it can be to recommend, it is a very superb movie that absolutely deserves attention.

I Spit on your Grave follows a writer named Jennifer Hills (played by Camille Keaton who gives a most powerful performance) who has taken a vacation from her life in New York in the country to write her first novel. At first the locals seem friendly and she feels relaxed enough to begin writing. But one day this all comes crashing down as she is brutally assaulted and raped by four local men. This scene is truly horrific as we are shown the entire ordeal as director Meir Zarchi shows us just how abhorrent sexual violence really is. However, one of these men is tasked with killing her after but in a tiny glimmer of compassion he leaves her alive. Now, violated and traumatized, Jennifer offers a prayer for forgiveness in the local church before gathering some blades, a gun and her cunning feminine charm and reeking her vengeance upon these filthy monsters.

Yeah... This is not one to show the children, but the same can be said for all the films I talk about. If I Spit on your Grave is a little too much or close to home, I understand perfectly. But this is one of the strongest anti-rape films ever made. And Jennifer`s revenge is as satisfying as it is terrifying. I Spit on your Grave is a very important film and one truly horrifying... Well... Horror. I love this film and what it stands for, no messing around or prettying things up, if you want to show how horrible a serious subject is, do just that. I Spit on your Grave, the horror masterpiece that I love... Oh it is hard to watch, but that is the idea after all.
