The Burning Moon released in 1992 quickly became the sought after VHS that shocked America back in the day. Director/Practical Effects Master Olaf Ittenbach created one of the most depraved and violent shot on video films in history in The Burning Moon.

The Burning Moon is an anthology film which follows a violent young junkie gangster (played by Olaf Ittenbach himself) as he tells his little sister two horrific bedtime stories.
Story 1 Julia`s Love follows a young woman who goes on a date with a charming guy who is very sweet to her. Until she finds out that he is a serial killer who recently escaped a Mental Institution. She manages to escape the date but leaves her wallet in his car containing her name and address. What follows is a brutal family massacre. As his love for her becomes more obsessive and creepy.
Story 2 The Purity. This one takes place in a small country village in the year 1957. The area is plagued by a series of brutal sexual murders and ritualistic slayings. Unbeknownst to the townsfolk, the killer is none other than the beloved village Priest who everyone trusts. The villagers all start to point the blame at a lonely farmer who lives nearby. The farmer befriends the Priest and tells him that he believes they wish to kill him. Not long after the villagers pay one of their own to go to the farm and beat the poor man to death. But the murderous Priest place a curse on he who would harm the sweet farmer. That evening he who killed the innocent man is sent to hell in what has to be the most terrifying and grotesque depiction of Hell I have ever seen as the man is tortured savagely, unable to die.
For a low budget German Horror film this is one damn impressive film. Olaf Ittenbach really outdid himself. His direction is very good and his Practical Effects and Gore are truly something to behold. Those looking for an effectively bleak and ultraviolent story with some stomach turning gore. The Burning Moon is just what the doctor ordered. A damn good horror film, who`s shocking brutality will surly last throughout the ages.
