Urotsukidoji/ Legend of the Overfiend. The boundary pushing Pornographic Horror masterpiece.

Legend of the Overfiend! When people ask what my favorite film of all time is, the answer is always either Spirited Away or Legend of the Overfiend. This was the first film to introduce tentacles in a sexual context, and if you know anything about Hentai, that is no mean feat. The creator Toshio Maeda was known to use tentacles as a clever way to skirt around Japanese censorship lays about showing male genitalia. And boy did it work like a charm because tentacle porn is now a staple of Japan. My father once told me that in high school he and his friends would watch this on VHS and watch in utter disbelief that this animated film was filled with sex and gore something very original for its time in the early 90s. Legend of the Overfiend proved extremely influential and remains a beloved cult classic. In this document I will discuss both Legend of the Overfiend and its sequal Legend of the Demon Womb. Both are excellent and choosing a favorite would be like choosing between my children.

"Mankind, you are an ignorant race. How foolish it is to believe your kind rules the Earth. Know now that your are not alone, there are unseen worlds that exist parallel to yours. These are the worlds of the Makai, a race of demons. And the Jujinkai, those that are half-man and half-beast. There is an ancient legend, a prophecy foretelling the appearance of a super being every three thousand years. He is called the Chojin! A god above all gods, the Overfiend! The Chojin will appear through the body of a human and with his great power he will unite the three worlds. He will create a new world, a world of peace and harmony. His time has now come!"

Legend of the Overfiend tells the story of two young Jujinkai (man-beast) siblings, Amano and his sister Megumi, who have spent 300 years on earth searching for the Chojin in the human world. They eventually find him in the form of an awkward, perverted young man named Nagumo. All seems good but the Makai are constantly trying to attack Nagumo to destroy the Chojin. One of these attempts includes a powerful Makai named Suekakuju giving demonic power to Nickey, a classmate who is in love with Nagumo`s girlfriend Akemi and a brutal fight between the two ensues. After which Nagumo is horrified at his awesome power. After he and Akemi make love, the true power of Chojin awakens as he begins destroying all in his path. Amano is confronted with the horrifying thought that perhaps in order for the Chojin to unite the three worlds, he may have to eradicate them first.

As I said this may be my favorite film on the face of the planet. A cool story, gallons of gore, plenty of sex and surprisingly badass action. This film has it all and I defy you... DEFY you!!! To be bored a single time during this classic masterpiece.

Legend of the Demon Womb. This one takes place in Yokohama where Nagumo and Akemi are looking forward to a visit from Nagumo`s cousin Takeake as the two were very close childhood friends. However, a demonic attack on Takeake`s plane results a terrible crash in which he is the only survivor. Desperate to save his cousin, Nagumo offers to give Takeake a blood transplant. A risky move as any who consume the semen or blood of the Chojin are given power of their own, Soon a mysterious former Nazi scientist named Myunhihausand begins manipulating Takeake into committing grave acts of evil, transforming him into the Evil King, the only being powerful enough to battle the Chojin. Nagumo must stop him, but can he take the life of the one he loves like a brother?

As I said earlier, this film is just as good as the first. For all the same reasons, though this one has a considerably more somber tone as Takeake is grieving over the death of his parents who perished in the crash that he survived. Still, blood, sex, action and pure no holds barred fun.

I love this films more than I ever thought possible and would recommend them to anyone who loves themselves some anime or horror. There is a reason this franchise is as influential as it is and is so beloved. Legend of the Overfiend, how I love thee so much.
